What this calculator does
Add each item with its own quantity, price and VAT or tax rate. The calculator groups tax by rate and shows net, tax and gross totals as you type. You can enter prices before tax or prices that already include tax.
Use one line for each product or service. This matters when an invoice contains a standard-rated service and a reduced-rated product, because each line needs a separate tax calculation.
Copy the summary, download the calculation as CSV or print the page for your records. The tool calculates numbers only. It does not issue an invoice number or replace your invoicing software.
What a VAT invoice needs
Beyond the totals, a compliant VAT invoice carries: your full name and address, your VAT number, the customer's name and address, the issue date and a sequential number, a description of the supply, the net amount, the VAT rate and the VAT amount per rate, and the total payable.
The VAT number is the critical field: without it, your customer cannot reclaim the tax. If you charge more than one rate, list the net and VAT separately per rate. The guide on VAT on invoices walks through a complete example you can copy.
Tax rates on invoices
Choose a country preset to set the currency and standard rate. You can then change the rate on any line, including reduced and zero rates. Changing the preset applies its standard rate to the current lines.
The calculation rounds tax to two decimal places per line, then groups the result by rate. Your invoicing rules or accounting software may use a different rounding method, so check the final document before sending it.
Common questions
What should an invoice include?
For a VAT invoice in most countries: your name and address, your VAT number, the customer's name and address, the invoice date and number, a description of the supply, the net amount, the VAT rate and the VAT amount. See the VAT on invoices guide for a full example.
Does this calculator create a real invoice?
No. It calculates the totals. Use it to check your own invoice before sending, or to build the numbers you then format in your invoicing software.
How do I add multiple tax rates to one invoice?
Enter the correct rate on each line. The calculator works out tax per line and shows a separate net and tax total for every rate used on the invoice.
Why does the currency change when I pick a country?
Each country preset carries its currency, so the totals format correctly. You can still type any rate manually if you invoice across borders.
How do I calculate an invoice due date?
Add the payment term to the invoice date: a Net 30 invoice issued on 12 August is due on 11 September. Count calendar days unless the contract says business days. For late payment interest, apply your agreed annual rate to the overdue amount per day.
Is a discount before or after tax?
In most regimes the discount is applied to the net amount, and tax is calculated on the discounted net. That is how this calculator works. Confirm the order with your tax authority if you offer discounts.
